Information

Bottlefed ensemble

Bottlefed is a London based international physical theatre ensemble. An essential part of our creative process is rooted in durational improvisation and telling stories through the performers’ bodies without a big emphasis on technical support.

Workshop Audtition

In order to widen our ensemble we are looking for physical performers with an interest in a long-term collaboration with Bottlefed. A passion for collaborative, ensemble-based physical theatre and experience in devising is required. We are holding a workshop audition over the two evenings of

3 and 5 December from 6.30pm-9.30pm at our studio in Oval, London

The first session will give participants and company members the chance to meet, play and create together as an ensemble – the second evening will be an improvisation session with the musicians.

For more information on our company, visit www.bottlefed.org

If chosen for further collaboration, performers need to be available for two 4-hour sessions a week (exact timings tbc) from February onwards. The first work in progress showing will take place in April with an outlook on a final piece to be performed by autumn/winter ’08.

We believe that an ensemble and a piece of theatre take time to grow – so our process is usually spread over a period of time, which includes regular workshop sessions for research and development purposes, work in progress showcases, and intense rehearsal periods when working towards a performance. There is no fee available for this collaboration – the process is very much performer-led and is based on the principle that everybody involved will gain individually through training and performance.

The project
The R&D phase is based on the idea that the musicians and the performers become one ensemble: The musicians won’t be a backdrop but be as central as the physical performers in staging and involvement. We want to explore different ways of improvising together – what happens if we apply the principles of free music improvisation to movement/physical theatre improvisation and vice versa - and how far can we push this dialogue? The process will include the use of text, visual stimuli, physical theatre, contact improvisation and dance.

How to Apply
Send your CV and a short note of interest to info@bottlefed.org. Applications are accepted until 26 November - we will then get in touch and let you know if you have been invited to take part in the workshop.
