Profile Information

What I do... (Actor, director, designer, teacher etc?)
I'm a playwright and poet.
My Quick CV
Before finding his feet as a playwright, Ed had spent several years working as a binman, occasional stand-up poet and (for one unbearably cold season) as a husky trainer in Lapland. He became one of The Old Vic's New Voices in 2004 with his first play, SUGARED GRAPEFRUIT. The next year he became Writer-on-Attachment at Chichester Festival Theatre where his epic play LUCY won the Chichester Festival Theatre Slams. He is a published poet and has performed his poetry on Radio 4 ("A Hot New Talent", The Radio Times). Ed is currently writing A MONGREL ISLAND a stage play for Soho Theatre. Last year, his play NEVER EVER AFTER was short-listed for the Meyer-Whitworth prize for new writing.

Ed has studied playwrighting under Stephen Jeffries at RADA and more recently attended workshops by On Theatre at Soho Writer’s Centre. He regularly works as a mentor and dramaturg at drama schools such as East 15, Rose Bruford, The Academy of Creative Training and for writers/devising groups at The Nightingale Theatre and Otherplace Productions. He is currently Writer-in-Residence at Upstairs at Three and Ten, Brighton.

Radio plays

I have two radio plays on Radio 4. The first is Aromatherapy with Martin Freeman, at 2:15pm on the 2nd of April; about a man who has his soul removed in order cope better with the world. The second is The Moment You Feel It, at the same time on the 18th of May, the premise of which is trickier to explain.

Thanks!

Porshia, The Friday Evening Play, Radio 4 (27.04.07)

'When was the last time you heard a woman orgasm on Radio 4? [Porshia] is no ratings-grabbing piece of sordid titillation, however... It twists the traditional assumptions of what men like about women and women like about men. Given the raw subject matter, the language is surprisingly poetic, with lines like "But hope recedes like hairlines into well-behaved side partings" lingering long after memories of the audio orgasm have faded. Undoubtedly the drama of the week." - The Radio Tim
