Profile Information

What I do... (Actor, director, designer, teacher etc?)
Writer.
My Quick CV
I went into the merchant navy at 16, few years after that started on a lighting crew in children’s television. Became lighting gaffer. Several years later became camera man on everything from sport to music. I now work as an assistant studio manager in London. I've been writing scripts for about ten years.
The first thing that inspired me in theatre...
Life.
My favourite theatre something is...
The actors and the craft of storytelling.
The thing that annoys me about our industry...
The fear of trying anything new. 'If in doubt bang another Shakespeare play out there. The copyright is free and it's so well written it's hard to get wrong but almost impossible to get right.

And from my perspective, writers are small miracle workers. I don't pretend to have the gift, though have been enjoying 'The Writer's Journey' recently. Anyway, feel free to contact me. Email is often easiest as I travel a bit: barbarajoslyn@fastmail.fm

Have a great weekend.

And what a great photo for your ID in here. Love your profile comments too. So, so right about Shakespeare.

I see that you write. I organise screenplay readings from time to time. I've run about 6 so far. We actors get the jitters if we're not doing something creative and as actors we often spend lots of time 'resting' and I have a gang of good readers who enjoy taking part in the readings. Most of the time, we just want our travel expenses and some refreshment. If you're interested at any point, drop me a line.

All the best and many thanks for the kind words.

b.
