A Theatre Company combining adaptation of classic plays with new writing and techniques to find new ways to explore the questions raised by how we live today.

Profile Information

What I do... (Actor, director, designer, teacher etc?)
Real Circumstance has three aims: to produce innovative theatre consisting of new writing by emergent writers, and new plays created by the Company through long-term real-time improvisation; to help young theatre-practitioners develop their crafts both before and after professional training; and to raise the profile of Essex and the Eastern Region as a national centre of creative artistic work.

All our work is underpinned by a process of rehearsal in which actors are encouraged to create fully-realised imaginary selves, who are able to respond truthfully to any given circumstance.

Artistic Director - Dan Sherer
Creative Producer - Anna Bewick
Associate Artist - Suresh Patel
Associate Director - Ruth Brock
Education Associate - Jo Somervell

“Real Circumstance’s work is becoming an intriguing nugget of profound dramatic quality, intricately detailed until the end.” British Theatre Guide

Hi Suresh, thanks so much for your email telling me about your theatre company and of the auditions. Unfortunately it's not the sort of thing that I would be interested in at the moment, but may I wish you every success with it. All the best, Eric.

The play looks very powerful. I love the idea of the story. Sounds almost like it would make a brilliant short film. Am sure it will go v well. regards
