- The Factory believes that theatre should be thought of as an art. An art which is supported by an industry, not the other way around. It is intended as an island of creative purity that stands apart from the industry of theatre, and is sustained by the donation of time and skill by those involved.
It is dedicated to a continuous and evolving investigation of the theatrical art form and it’s place in contemporary culture.
It is an invite only organization, for those at the top of their respective crafts who wish to exchange ideas in a non hierarchical open dialogue, challenge the theatrical status quo, and channel their collective skills to produce exciting work of the truly highest quality.
It’s output, be it productions of new plays or classic texts, connected print work or publications, are born out of the purest artistic motivations and allow as much creative freedom and responsibility as is possible.
It’s productions are conceived of in such a way as to inspire complete spontaneity and creative risk in the performer, for an audience who should feel involved in the event and able to engage with it using more than just their eyes and ears.
The Factory believes that people will travel a long way to witness something which is truly live, performed with bravery and skill, and that you don’t need star casting or technical wizardry to interest people in theatre.
The Factory believes that there is much work to be done and provides it’s members with time, space and talent with which to explore, develop, and practice their art regularly with many of our form’s guiding lights, in a supportive environment, without having to pay any money to do so.
The Factory is for pragmatists, for the proactive, those who really want to push themselves, that read books about theatre, question its ideas, hunger to move the art form forward, it is for those that want to work, that don’t mind getting lost, that are willing to make themselves vulnerable and are excited simply to explore. It is not for the pedestrian nor is it a place for networkers.
