Profile Information

What I do... (Actor, director, designer, teacher etc?)
Actor, Artistic Director of Stone Soup Theatre Company, Toronto, Canada.
My Quick CV
I started my career at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival and since then have appeared on stages across Canada, in classical, comedy, drama and musicals.
The first thing that inspired me in theatre...
Reciting Mariott Edgar's "The Lion and Albert" at the tender age of 7. I was forced into it by my father who wanted to make sure his children didn't suffer from the same shyness as he. So he got wind of a Christmas concert at the school I attended and submitted my name. I learned "The Lion and Albert" in a couple of weeks and it went off without a hitch. I didn't want to do it and resisted until the very last minute. But, oh, the applause.... I was hooked.

The next year, I recited "The Battle of Hastings" and a legend was born. HA!
My favourite theatre something is...
I once did an "original practices" version of Taming of the Shrew. We all rehearsed our parts in a vacuum and only met the afternoon of the first (and only) performance. It was the most exhilarating experience I've ever had and reminded me why I act.
The thing that annoys me about our industry...
too many actors. lol
I've joined British Theatre for two reasons. I wanted to keep up-to-date with happenings "across the pond" and I'm attempting to create a network of supporters for our new, not-for-profit theatre company in Toronto, Canada. I bet my wife that I could get 7500 people to invest CAD$10.00 or its equivalent, so that we could embark on a 2-show season. There is a distinct need for small-cast modern classics in Toronto and this is a niche we hope to fill.
So I'm going against the grain of my Scots self-reliant background and humbly asking for help fom anyone who is willing to give it.
Therefore, if you see fit, please visit our donations page and feel free to recommend the site to anyone else who might be interested. It would be wonderful to get the seed money for a new theatre company from people all over the world...
