Profile Information

What I do... (Actor, director, designer, teacher etc?)
I am primarily an actor, but have in recent years co-written and produced several plays - The Legend Returns, Meeting Karpovsky and Playing Miss Havisham. I live in New Zealand but am a member of British Equity and plan to bring Playing Miss Havisham to London in 2008.
My Quick CV
Helen has been working as an actor and singer for over 30 years in NZ, Australia, the USA and the UK, where her career began singing with the D'OYLY CARTE. Her recent roles in New Zealand have been as Virginia Woolf in VITA AND VIRGINIA (Circa and Court), Vivian Bearing in WIT (Circa and Court), for which she won Actress of the Year 2000 in the Wellington Theatre Awards, the eccentric opera singer Cynthia Fortitude, in her own show THE LEGEND RETURNS, Miss Shepherd in LADY IN THE VAN (Circa), Gramma and Annie in IN FLAME (Circa), Jean in MUM’S CHOIR (Centrepoint) Madame Giry in Ken Hill’s PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Tour of Japan), Sylvia in MEETING KARPOVSKY, for which she won Actress of the Year 2003 in the Wellington Theatre Awards, Mrs Venable in SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER and Jean in TAKING OFF. (Both at the Court) MEETING KARPOVSKY, devised with Sir Jon Trimmer and Sue Rider, has played in Christchurch, Wellington and in 2004 toured NZ to nine centres. THE LEGEND RETURNS also continues to tour NZ periodically and is broadcast regularly on the Concert Programme as one of their most popular requests. PLAYING MISS HAVISHAM, Helen’s new solo show, opened in the Wellington Fringe last year and now tours extensively around NZ, playing in living rooms, art galleries, libraries, community halls and small theatres. Helen’s film and television credits include PICTURES, CLOSE TO HOME, COUNTRY GP, EREBUS – THE AFTERMATH, ABBERATION, THE WALL and THE DARK KNIGHT.
