British Theatre

Yes it is no accident that the title of this rant is the above. In this company (Fragments) there can never be enough homage paid to the great Peter and we are enormous fans of the sufficiency of the human body and the collective. However, this title is not referring to a physical and theatrical empty space. Rather 'the empty space' refers to a glorious hole in my research that baffles me a little. Granted I haven't pulled out all the stops yet but one wouldn't have expected such information to be difficult to find. My problem is as follows, 'No Dogs' (a play I am working on currently in its first draft) features a Ghanaian immigrant, it is set in 1946 a year after the end of the Second World War. As of yet I have been able to find no evidence of African immigrants at that time. All the documentation I have come across points to Caribbean peoples and the wind rush of 1945. A trip to the African Centre in Covent Garden was fruitless as it was closed, yes it would have been a good idea to check opening times before leaving base but when you live in London you do begin to expect everything to be open all the time. Now, being armed with the information, I have planned my next visit, which I am going to team with a visit to the British Library, they know everything! In the meantime if there is anyone reading this who can enlighten me on the plight of the African immigrant (pre 1950) I would appreciate a message!
