I must admit I was rather "on my soapbox" when I wrote that stuff about extras, sorry "supporting artistes", and I certainly wouldn't want you, or anyone else, to think I look down on people in your line of work! I think it's disgusting that anyone, however great an actor they may be, should consider themselves superior to anyone else! I agree that training, or lack of it, doesn't guarantee good or bad acting - after all there have been some very successful screen actors who didn't go to drama school and some fairly awful ones who did! (No, I'm not going to name names as that's bound to get me into more trouble!!) I wouldn't be at all surprised to find the focus-pullers are indeed the trained actors! However, I would say in their defence that they're probably just desperate to be noticed and given a line or two to say!
I guess what I was really moaning about was the fact that a couple of friends of mine are working regularly as extras (sorry, it's quicker than writing your preferred title!) and getting fairly decent money for something that's not even their main job, just a hobby they do for fun and pocket money, when actor friends and clients of mine are struggling to find any kind of paid acting work. I'm not suggesting you're in the hobby category - it may be your full-time job, and it sounds like you're personally very dedicated and a credit to the industry, but if you're actually making a living at it you're very lucky! As an agent, as well as an actor, I want my clients to have as many opportunities as possible, so it would be good if actors could supplement their income with extra work without running the risk of not being taken seriously as actors, which certainly used to be the case. Surely it would be more enjoyable than the temp jobs many are forced to do in companies that often won't allow them time off for castings...
Anyway, I'm really glad you took me up on my rant and hope I've managed to convince you that I'm actually a fairly reasonable and friendly person who has nothing personal against your work! Am I forgiven?
Friends?!

P.S. Sorry for the late reply - I'm afraid I've been in hospital having hurt my back.. wonder if there are any parts going as a female "Quasimodo", or perhaps a penguin, as I look like a cross between the two in my attempts to waddle about using my zimmer frame!
