What is The Rocky Horror Show about?
Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show follows newly engaged couple Brad and Janet whose car breaks down near a castle inhabited by Dr Frank-N-Furter, a self-described "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania". What follows is a wild night of science fiction, rock and roll, fishnets, and liberation. The show celebrates individuality, sexual freedom, and the joy of letting go of convention.
Why see The Rocky Horror Show?
No other show in theatre history has the audience participation culture of Rocky Horror. From the callbacks shouted during the dialogue to the full audience dressed in costume, from the Time Warp danced in the aisles to the confetti and party atmosphere, Rocky Horror is less a show you watch and more an event you participate in. The music is fantastic: The Time Warp, Sweet Transvestite, and Science Fiction/Double Feature are all-time classics. First-timers and veterans alike leave grinning.
Practical information for visitors
The Rocky Horror Show tours the UK regularly and plays periodic West End seasons. Check current listings for venue and dates. The show contains sexual content, innuendo, and audience participation that is very much part of the experience. It is best suited for ages 16 and above. Dressing up is enthusiastically encouraged but not required.

For more cult theatrical experiences, The Book of Mormon delivers irreverent comedy with similar boundary-pushing energy. Cabaret offers dark glamour and decadence. For audience participation, The Play That Goes Wrong generates similar communal energy through comedy.
