History

The Royal Albert Hall is a concert hall situated on the northern edge of the South Kensington area, in the City of Westminster, London, England, best known for holding the annual summer Proms concerts since 1941.

It is one of the UK's most treasured and distinctive buildings, recognisable all over the world. Since its opening by Queen Victoria in 1871, the world's leading artists from every kind of performance genre have appeared on its stage. Each year it hosts more than 350 performances including classical concerts, rock and pop, ballet and opera, tennis, award ceremonies, school and community events, charity performances and banquets.

The hall was originally supposed to have been called The Central Hall of Arts and Sciences, but the name was changed by Queen Victoria to Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences when laying the foundation stone as a dedication to her deceased husband and consort Prince Albert.

It forms the practical part of a national memorial to the Prince Consort – the decorative part is the Albert Memorial directly to the north in Kensington Gardens, now separated from the Hall by the road Kensington Gore.

One of the standout features of the Hall is how impeccably it is managed. Despite its historic age, the facilities and toilets are exceptionally well-maintained, clean, and easily accessible—a rarity for buildings of this era. The main auditorium itself is a marvel of Victorian engineering. The hall is incredibly spacious, yet it manages to feel intimate thanks to its circular design. If you are seated in the stalls, you will find the chairs and seating arrangements to be surprisingly comfy, providing enough support to enjoy a long orchestral piece or a modern concert without discomfort. Important Tips for Visitors While the architecture is stunning, your choice of seating is crucial: Avoid the Upper Circle with Kids: While the view from the top is panoramic, the Upper Circle feels very far from the stage. More importantly, the climb involves several flights of stairs that can be exhausting for children or those with limited mobility. Budget for Refreshments: The onsite cafes and bars are quite pricey. While the quality is high, be prepared for "London venue" pricing if you plan on grabbing a coffee or a snack during the interval. Overall, the Royal Albert Hall remains a jewel of British culture. As long as you book your seats wisely and plan for the premium costs of snacks, it offers an unforgettable, world-class experience

Royal Albert Hall is based in central London, Kensington, and it’s an absolutely stunning venue. We went to see Circus Delay, which was amazing from start to finish. The performers were incredibly talented and the props were impressive, adding real wow-factor to the show. The hall itself is beautiful, with amazing views from inside and very comfortable seats. The atmosphere made it a fantastic night out and a real treat in one of London’s most iconic venues.

Royal Albert Hall is one of the most spectacular and historic venues in London. From the outside, the circular red-brick architecture is already impressive, but stepping inside is truly unforgettable. The grand auditorium, with its stunning domed ceiling and elegant design, creates a magical atmosphere. The acoustics are outstanding, whether you’re attending a classical concert, a film screening with live orchestra, or a contemporary music performance. Every seat offers a unique perspective, and the energy inside the hall is powerful yet refined. The building itself is rich in history and tradition, adding depth to every event hosted there. The organization is smooth, the staff are professional and welcoming, and the overall experience feels premium from start to finish. Attending a performance at Royal Albert Hall is more than just a show — it’s a cultural experience. A true London landmark that combines history, elegance, and world-class entertainment. Absolutely unforgettable and highly recommended

Spectacular venue. Always such a treat to watch a performance here. Grand, old school, the perfect place to watch something like Cirque du soeil. Plenty of the places to grab a drink, seating height works perfect so you don't have issues with the person's height sitting infront of you. Iconic venue!!
