The St. James Theatre opened on 18th September 2012; the first new theatre in central London for 30 years. The building was constructed on the site of the Westminster Theatre, which burned down in 2002.
The St James Theatre was renamed The Other Palace when Andrew Lloyd Webber bought the venue in 2016.
As well as the main theatre space, the building also holds a small studio space, with a varied programme that changes nightly. The theatre also has a full broadcast TV facility, which has allowed shows to be broadcast on satellite television and the Internet.

The Other Palace Theatre
It is one of the most prominent theatres in London, renowned as a creative hub for developing new musicals and for hosting the UK premieres of acclaimed productions. With its comfortable seating, well-appointed bar, and welcoming, friendly staff, visitors are made to feel both comfortable and valued from the moment they arrive.
Wonderful theatre and all of the staff are so friendly and kind. I have been to see a few things here and the Productions are always so so good. My only comment is that the seats are unusually small and close together. My partner and I are average sized and only 6ft. It was pretty uncomfortable having to sit 'side saddle' through an entire show and I could feel the breath of the stranger next to me on my arm... however the show was incredible so well worth it.
Such a lovely, welcoming theatre! The information on the website is great; I especially liked that they give a rough guide of distance from Victoria Station, as they put 2 to 5 minutes walk, taking into account that some of us may be slower. Two or so weeks before the show we were attending, I received an email, asking if I needed any extra support as someone with access needs, which is lovely! They suggested better, as in less steps, seats for me and changed them, and I still got a great view. They offered to let me in earlier, so I wouldn't get jostled on the stairs; we arrived later than they suggested because of a delay in tubes (still 30 minutes before the show started), and they still let us in first. Everyone, from booking, to receptionists, to ushers, to bar staff, were so friendly and helpful. I have seen two fantastic shows at this theatre, both have been brilliant, and I would especially love to see Unfortunate again (and again! I've seen it 3 times already!), but it's the theatre itself, or, more specifically, the staff, that makes me want to go back. Thank you.
The Other Palace is one of London's most modern theatres and therefore has the thing most important to any good theatre: a strong gradient. Unlike the largely terrible theatres of the West End, you won't be leaning over the heads of the person in front of you, no matter how tall they are. Even the back row at The Other Palace has fantastic views of the stage making even the cheap seats a bargain. It's a fantastic space, in short. Add to that a top class theatre bar and varied and interesting programming, and frankly, you've got a pretty fantastic theatre. Absolutely worth a visit in my view.
