Part true crime, part Western – KENREX tells the unbelievable story of Ken Rex McElroy, a small-town tyrant shot dead in broad daylight with 60 witnesses... none of whom saw a thing. Jack Holden delivers a tour-de-force solo performance with live Americana soundtrack.
Skidmore, Missouri, 1981. Ken Rex McElroy was a thoroughly bad, predatory criminal who conducted a reign of terror over his local community for years. Yet thanks to a slippery attorney, he never spent a night in jail. After shooting a much-loved elderly butcher, he was brought to the attention of District Attorney David Baird, but before justice could be served, Kenrex was shot and killed in broad daylight, with 60 witnesses standing by.
Yet no one claims to have seen a thing. To this day, no one has been convicted of the crime. Book KENREX tickets at The Other Palace!
Jack Holden delivers a spell-binding, tour-de-force solo performance, playing every single role in this gripping true-crime thriller. Part Western, part noir, the play features a foot-stomping live Americana soundtrack performed by composer John Patrick Elliott. From the creators of Olivier-nominated Cruise, KENREX has wowed audiences at Sheffield Theatres and Southwark Playhouse.
Five-star reviews call it "the best play of the year" and "a spell-binding amalgam of Under Milk Wood, Bonnie and Clyde and a more democratic version of Gunfight at the OK Corral."
Fans of true-crime storytelling may also enjoy documentary theatre and one-person shows in the West End.
