Free Madama Butterfly Touch Tour at Theatre Royal Glasgow lets audiences with sight loss explore the set, costumes and props. Book your place.
Scottish Opera's free Touch Tour for Madama Butterfly at Theatre Royal Glasgow gives audience members living with sight loss a hands-on opportunity to explore the set, scenery, props and costumes of this new co-production with Irish National Opera. Audio describers, stage management and wardrobe staff are present throughout. Places are limited.
Puccini's opera centres on Cio-Cio-San, a young woman who marries US Navy Lieutenant Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton and gives up everything on the strength of his promise of a new life. When he eventually returns, the reunion she has long anticipated ends only in tragedy. Director Daisy Evans and designer Kat Heath, who also worked on Scottish Opera's Albert Herring in 2024, frame the work as a journey through memory and identity. Jake Wiltshire designed the lighting and Catherine Fay the costumes.
The co-production was made with Irish National Opera and came to Scotland after its Dublin run. The advertised cast includes Sunyoung Seo as Cio-Cio-San, Andrés Presno as Pinkerton, Lea Shaw as Suzuki and Phillip Rhodes as Sharpless.
Participants are guided around the stage to handle props, feel costumes and explore the set and scenery at close quarters. Audio describers are on hand alongside stage management and wardrobe staff, who can answer questions and offer verbal descriptions of what has been created for the production.
The tour is free of charge and is separate from a performance ticket. If you wish to attend the opera itself, a performance ticket must be booked in addition. Availability is limited, so early booking is advisable.
These are the dates listed by ATG as checked on 21 September 2026. A date range may contain selected performances, rather than a show every day. Open your chosen venue link for exact times, seats and current prices.
