Welsh National Opera - Family Concert tickets in Oxford

Welsh National Opera's Family Concert is an hour-long orchestral event at New Theatre Oxford, with presenter Elin Llwyd guiding families through myths from Ancient Greece, Rome and Wales. The WNO Orchestra performs at full power while families clap along, take on musical challenges and react freely.

What happens during the concert

Elin Llwyd leads the audience through a programme built around ancient mythology, including stolen fire, bears on the loose, a fly attempting to sing and the full orchestral force of Holst's Mars. Families are actively invited to clap, respond and join in as the music unfolds. Questions are woven into the event: can you clap in 5/4? What does a harpsichord actually sound like? Answers emerge through the performance itself.

The concert runs for approximately one hour with no interval. Music, dance and lights bring the mythological characters to life.

Audience considerations

The event carries a recommended age of 7 and above. There is no expectation of traditional concert etiquette: children are welcome to make noise, react audibly and join in. For those who find loud or busy environments challenging, ear defenders and sensory bags are available at this venue. English and Welsh captions run throughout.
