Scottish Opera's free Così fan tutte Touch Tour at Theatre Royal Glasgow lets visitors with sight loss explore the set and costumes. Book a place.
Scottish Opera's Touch Tour for Così fan tutte is a free pre-show access session at Theatre Royal Glasgow, designed for audience members living with sight loss. Audio describers, stage management and wardrobe staff guide participants around the set, scenery, props and costumes, helping them build a tactile and descriptive picture of the production before the performance.
This new production of Mozart and Da Ponte's Così fan tutte is presented in collaboration with the Advanced Artist Diploma in Opera programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. A group of hand-picked international singers in the final stages of their training perform alongside The Orchestra of Scottish Opera, conducted by period specialist John Butt.
Rebecca Meltzer directs, with designs by Kat Heath. The opera follows two men who, goaded by a cynical friend's bet, spend a day in disguise testing their fiancées' fidelity, while the servants find their own opportunities to manipulate events, and the comedy opens onto more searching questions about love.
The tour gives participants the chance to handle props, feel costumes and explore the set, with audio describers, stage management and wardrobe personnel present to describe and interpret the space and answer questions. Places are limited, so booking early is advisable.
The production carries an age guidance of 12 and above at Theatre Royal Glasgow. The touch tour is specifically intended for those living with sight loss.
