Billy Elliot the Musical tickets and regional UK dates

Billy Elliot the Musical returns to UK stages after a decade away, telling the story of a boy who swaps the boxing ring for the ballet class against the backdrop of the 1984/5 miners' strike. The production features music by Elton John and has been seen by close to 12 million people across five continents.

The story and its setting

Set in a northern town during the 1984/5 miners' strike, the musical follows young Billy as he discovers a passion for dance that puts him at odds with his circumstances and community, yet ultimately brings those around him together. The production has earned more than 80 awards worldwide since its debut.

The creative team responsible for the original film brought the story to the stage, with music by Elton John and words by Lee Hall.

What to know before you go

The production carries an 8+ age guidance. It contains strong language, scenes of domestic conflict, some violence, repetitive flashing lights, pyrotechnics, smoke, haze, and smoking on stage. Anyone with sensitivities to those effects should take them into account when booking.

At Sunderland Empire, under-16s receive 15% off selected seats at Monday to Thursday performances.
