Free Turandot Touch Tour at Theatre Royal Glasgow for those with sight loss to explore sets and costumes from Scottish Opera's production. Book a place.
Scottish Opera's Touch Tour for Turandot at Theatre Royal Glasgow is a free pre-show session for audience members living with sight loss, giving them a chance to explore the set, props and costumes from this new co-production with Irish National Opera. Places are limited.
The session allows participants to handle and examine set pieces, props and costume items before a performance. Audio describers, stage management staff and wardrobe team members are present throughout to answer questions and share descriptions of the production's physical world. Availability is limited, so booking ahead is recommended rather than expecting a place on arrival.
The production is a new co-production between Scottish Opera and Irish National Opera, directed by Sir David McVicar, who reunites with the creative team behind Scottish Opera's 2023 Il trittico. The opera is Puccini's final work, and McVicar's staging addresses both Princess Turandot's trauma and Prince Calaf's recklessness directly, presenting the story as one of two characters caught between fear and desire.
Stuart Stratford conducts The Orchestra of Scottish Opera. The advertised cast includes Trine Bastrup Møller, Victor Starsky, Insung Sim and Hye-Youn Lee. Set and costume designs are by Charles Edwards and Doey Lüthi, with lighting by Ben Pickersgill. The score includes 'Nessun dorma' and 'In questa reggia'.
