Oxford International Opera's Tosca at New Theatre Oxford stars Sir Bryn Terfel and the Oxford Philharmonic. Explore booking details.
Oxford International Opera brings a new fully-staged production of Puccini's Tosca to the New Theatre Oxford for two performances only. Sir Bryn Terfel appears as Scarpia in what is billed as his final staged production of the role, joined by soprano Carmen Giannattasio in the title part and lyric tenor Saimir Pirgu making his UK debut as Cavaradossi.
P Burton-Morgan directs and Anthony Lamble designs a staging described as bringing the opera into a contemporary setting. Marios Papadopoulos conducts the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, which is described as an additional protagonist rather than mere accompaniment, and the Oxford Philharmonic Choir performs alongside an international cast of singers.
The remaining principal roles are taken by Jamie Woollard as Angelotti, Sion Goronwy as the Sacristan, Colin Judson as Spoletta, and Blaise Malaba as Sciarrone. Mark Jonathan is the lighting designer, and Anthony Flaum produces.
The run is limited to two nights, so availability may be restricted. No age guidance or running time is listed in the available information; it is worth checking directly with the New Theatre Oxford before booking.
