Jonathan Larson’s Rent has extended until 29 May 2027 at the Tom Stoppard Theatre (formerly the Duke of York’s), with 35,000 more tickets released. The news came on 6 October 2026, ten days after previews began on 26 September. You can compare dates and seats now with Rent tickets.

More time for the 30th anniversary revival
The revival celebrates 30 years since Rent premiered on Broadway, and the team behind it says the extra dates have been added because of “phenomenal demand”. The run had previously been set to close on 27 March 2027, so the new end date adds around two more months of performances into late spring. The official opening is on 8 October 2026.
A new set of photographs from the staging, taken by Pamela Raith and Danny Kaan, was released alongside the announcement and shows off the in-the-round staging. You can see how the show took shape in our earlier story on the Rent rehearsal images.
Who is in the cast?
Gaten Matarazzo, best known as Dustin Henderson in the Netflix series Stranger Things, makes his West End debut as the aspiring filmmaker Mark. He is currently scheduled to play the role until 10 January 2027.
Travis Ross plays Roger, with Alexa Lopez as Mimi, Billy Nevers as Collins, Lazy Violet as Maureen and Jeevan Braich as Angel. Olivier Award nominee Danielle Fiamanya plays Joanne, and Joaquin Pedro Valdes is Benny.
The ensemble features Baylie Carson, Laura Delany, Ryesha Higgs, Montoya Holloway-Johnson, Rhys Hopkins, Shem Omari James, Hannah Macpherson, TJ Matara-Holloway, Ryan Nixon, Leah Vassell, James Wilkinson-Jones and Kevin Yates.

A new name on St Martin’s Lane
The theatre took its new name in honour of the playwright Sir Tom Stoppard, who died in November 2025 and had a long association with the venue. ATG Entertainment announced the change on 1 July 2026, and the new frontage was unveiled at a ceremony on 10 September. Sonia Friedman, whose team co-presents Rent, said she could imagine Stoppard looking up at his name on the building, “utterly tickled pink”. Read more in our story on the renaming of the theatre.
What is Rent about?
Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème and set in New York’s East Village, Rent follows a group of young artists, musicians and friends across a single year as they chase love and creative ambition while struggling to pay their way, in the shadow of the HIV and AIDS crisis. Larson wrote the book, music and lyrics, and the musical went on to win both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award. Its rock score includes Seasons of Love and La Vie Bohème.
Luke Sheppard directs, with choreography by Tom Jackson Greaves. Sheppard has staged Rent before, at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester, where his version won a WhatsOnStage Award.
Planning your visit
