Ian Gillan's Talking Gib'rish Tour brings live talks to UK venues in 2027, with stories from Deep Purple and Jesus Christ Superstar. Find tickets.
Ian Gillan brings his first-ever public speaking tour, the Talking Gib'rish Tour, to UK venues in spring 2027. This is a live spoken-word event, not a concert: Gillan will recount personal stories from more than six decades in music, covering his Hounslow upbringing, the rise of Deep Purple, and much else besides.
The Talking Gib'rish Tour is a series of live speaking engagements, an entirely different format from a rock concert or tribute show. Gillan himself describes embarking on his first public speaking engagements after 65 years on the road, so audiences should expect storytelling, anecdote and candid reflection rather than a set list. The tone he has signalled is humorous and unfiltered, taking in encounters with remarkable people and events across a career that began in 1962.
Gillan's story opens with his first band, The Javelins, before he joined Roger Glover in Episode Six in 1965. Touring alongside Dusty Springfield and playing across Europe and the Middle East gave early shape to his approach. His arrival in Deep Purple in 1969 proved a pivotal moment: the band's 1972 album Machine Head contains Smoke on the Water. Separately, in 1970 he took the role of Jesus Christ on the original London studio recording of Jesus Christ Superstar for MCA Records. Later chapters include his work with Gillan, Garth Rockett and the Moonshiners, and Repo Depo. All of this is potential material for the evenings.
No age guidance or running time has been published for either the Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone or Aylesbury Waterside Theatre dates. Those hoping for live music performance should be aware this event is not that.
