Free 30-min pre-show talk on Scottish Opera's Così fan tutte at Theatre Royal Glasgow. Limited places for ages 12+. Reserve your booking ahead.
A free, thirty-minute pre-show talk at Theatre Royal Glasgow offers a closer look at the creative thinking behind Scottish Opera's production of Così fan tutte. Places are limited and must be reserved in advance. The event carries an age guidance of twelve and over.
The session focuses on this production of Così fan tutte rather than offering a broad introduction to opera. It draws on the creative thinking behind Rebecca Meltzer's staging and Kat Heath's designs.
The opera itself, conducted by period specialist John Butt leading The Orchestra of Scottish Opera, follows two men who accept a wager laid by a cynical friend, triggering a single day of disguises and deception involving their fiancées. The servants take their own opportunities to manipulate those above stairs, and Mozart and Da Ponte's social satire gradually uncovers more serious truths beneath its comic surface.
This staging is presented in collaboration with the Advanced Artist Diploma in Opera programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The principal cast comprises hand-picked international singers at the final stage of their training, performing alongside The Orchestra of Scottish Opera under John Butt. The pre-show talk is placed to illuminate how that collaboration has shaped the production's approach to the score.
The talk is a separate event from the opera performance, lasting thirty minutes and free to attend. Tickets must be reserved in advance, and availability is limited. The age guidance of twelve and over applies to this event at Theatre Royal Glasgow.
