Scottish Opera - Madama Butterfly Pre Show Talk tickets in Glasgow

A free, half-hour pre-show talk at Theatre Royal Glasgow offers audiences a closer look at Scottish Opera's co-production of Puccini's Madama Butterfly with Irish National Opera. Places must be reserved in advance and availability is limited.

What the talk covers

The thirty-minute session examines Madama Butterfly in detail before the performance. Admission is free but does not include entry to the opera, which requires a separate ticket.

About the production being discussed

The co-production with Irish National Opera is directed by Daisy Evans and designed by Kat Heath, both of whom worked together on Albert Herring in 2024. Their approach frames the opera as a journey through memory and identity. Lighting is by Jake Wiltshire and costumes by Catherine Fay.

The opera follows Cio-Cio-San, who marries US Navy Lieutenant Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton and gives up her former life on the strength of his promises. His eventual return brings only tragedy. The cast includes Sunyoung Seo as Cio-Cio-San, Andrés Presno as Pinkerton, Lea Shaw as Suzuki, and Phillip Rhodes as Sharpless. The production comes to Glasgow after a run in Dublin.

Booking and age guidance

The talk carries an age guidance of 12 and above. Because places are limited and free tickets must be reserved in advance, early booking is advisable. Anyone attending the opera on the same evening should confirm both bookings separately.
