Michael Ball OBE plays Willy Wonka at the London Coliseum. He performs in London only; at certain performances the role will be played by an alternate, to be announced, so check the performance schedule when booking. Further London casting, including Charlie Bucket, Grandpa Joe and the four other golden ticket winners, has not been announced yet. The Curve, Leicester run that precedes London has its own company, with Jonny Fines as Willy Wonka.

Who wrote and directed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the musical?

The musical has a book by David Greig, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, plus Pure Imagination, The Candy Man and I've Got a Golden Ticket by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley from the 1971 film. The new production is directed by Nikolai Foster with choreography by Ebony Molina, set design by Leslie Travers, costume design by Katrina Lindsay, lighting by Ben Cracknell, sound by Adam Fisher, video by George Reeve, wigs, hair and make-up by Campbell Young Associates, illusions by Chris Fisher, puppets by Rachael Canning, musical supervision by Stephen Brooker, orchestration adaptations by George Dyer and musical direction by Isaac McCullough. The original West End production at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane won two Olivier Awards in 2014, for Best Lighting Design and Best Costume Design. This new production has not yet been eligible for awards, but its team has plenty: Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman won the Tony Award for Hairspray, costume designer Katrina Lindsay won the Olivier Award for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, video designer George Reeve shared the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design for Maybe Happy Ending, and Michael Ball holds two Olivier Awards for Best Actor in a Musical, for Hairspray and Sweeney Todd.
