RECENSIE: City Stories, St James Studio ✭✭✭✭✭
Dit is werk op een hoogstaand creatief niveau, waarbij alles in de puurste en meest fundamentele zin afhangt van de acteurs zelf. Er is geen decor, slechts enkele kostuumaccenten – hier en daar een hoed of jas – en een paar stoelen waar nodig. Het is bovendien vermeldenswaardig dat de St James Studio, waar het podium aan de kant is geschoven om plaats te maken voor een bar, niet de makkelijkste zaal is om een publiek als één geheel mee te krijgen. Er zijn te veel onhandige kijkhoeken en niveauverschillen om rekening mee te houden, en de beschikbare speelruimte is miniem. Alle lof dus voor het ensemble en voor James Phillips voor zijn regie, nog afgezien van zijn heldere en toch uiterst nauwkeurige tekst.
