TOUR CLOSING EARLY
30 April 2015 - It was announced today that the Godspell Tour will close early. The final performance will be at the Princess Theatre, Torquay on 6th May.
This spring Godspell In Concert, the legendary rock musical from Stephen Schwartz, the Grammy® and Academy Award®- winning composer of Wicked, returns to the UK’s stages and opens at Hackney’s Empire Theatre on Easter Saturday, April 4th ahead of a 28 venue national tour. The UK tour follows the sell-out success of 2014’s gala performance at Shaftesbury Avenue’s Lyric Theatre, in support of the Make-A-Wish-Foundation®UK. Jennifer Potts (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Annie) will reprise her role alongside Jason Broderick (Anna Nicole the Opera) who also appeared in the charity performance. They will be joined by Andy Abraham (X Factor), Robert Hannouch (Miracle on 34th Street, The Cat in the Hat), Dominique Planter (Our House, The Threepenny Opera), Mitch Miller (Pop Factor) and Maeve Byrne (Ghost the Musical) and the ensemble is completed by Rachel Bingham, Laura Mansell, Steffan Lloyd-Evans and Ricky Johnston. Musical Director Russell Scott said: “We are thrilled to welcome our superb cast of hugely talented artists from the world of musical theatre. The cast has been hand-picked and offers a diversity of performance styles which will culminate in what promises to be an electrifying production. In this innovative format, Godspell in Concert audiences are set to be exhilarated and enlivened by the intimacy of the concert production. ” The UK tour will feature a brand new, modern-day rock score packed to the heavens with favourites such as Light of the World, All Good Gifts and Day by Day.
Prior to the gala, the show last played the West End in 1972 at the Wyndham’s Theatre, where it turned David Essex and Jeremy Irons into overnight sensations and more recently Godspell has enjoyed a hugely successful run on Broadway.
