Paddington The Musical brings Britain's best-loved bear to the stage at the Savoy Theatre in London's West End. Based on Michael Bond's books and inspired by the 2014 film, this world premiere production has become one of the hottest tickets in town since opening in late 2025. Here is everything you need to know before booking.

What Is Paddington The Musical About?

The story follows a young bear from Peru who arrives alone at a London train station with a suitcase, a hat and a note pinned to his coat reading "Please look after this bear." A chance encounter with the Brown family leads Paddington to a new life in Windsor Gardens, where his well-meaning nature and innocent curiosity cause plenty of chaos and comedy.

But the story has a darker side too. When a villain sets her sights on Paddington, the Brown family must decide how far they are willing to go to protect their new addition. It is based on the characters from Michael Bond's books (first published in 1958) and draws on the storyline of the 2014 film.

Who Is Paddington Best For?

This is a family show, officially recommended for ages 6 and above. Children under 4 are not admitted. Under-16s must be accompanied and seated next to an adult.

The show contains strobe-like lighting effects, loud noises and pyrotechnics. Relaxed performances are scheduled periodically for those who benefit from a more accessible environment.

Paddington works well for families with primary-school-age children and upwards, but it is not just a children's show. The writing, music and production values are strong enough to keep adult theatregoers engaged throughout.

How Long Is Paddington The Musical?

The running time is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, including an interval. This is a substantial show, so younger children may find it long. Plan accordingly and consider a matinee if you are bringing smaller ones who tire in the evenings.

Where Is Paddington Playing?

Paddington The Musical is at the Savoy Theatre, Savoy Court, The Strand, London WC2R 0ET. The nearest tube station is Charing Cross (Bakerloo and Northern lines, plus National Rail), about five minutes' walk away. Covent Garden and Embankment stations are also close.

The Savoy Theatre opened in 1881 and was the first public building in the world to be lit by electric lights. It has a long and distinguished history, hosting premieres from Gilbert and Sullivan to Noel Coward. The theatre seats around 1,150 across Stalls, Dress Circle and Upper Circle.

The production is booking until May 2027, though best availability is from autumn 2026 onwards. Check the Savoy Theatre page on BritishTheatre.com for the latest listings.

Who Made Paddington The Musical?

The music and lyrics are by Tom Fletcher, the songwriter and children's author best known as a member of the band McFly. The book is by Olivier Award-winning playwright Jessica Swale, whose credits include Nell Gwynn. The show is directed by Luke Sheppard. Paddington is brought to life on stage through puppetry, with James Hameed as the off-stage performer and remote puppeteer, and Arti Shah as the on-stage performer.

How to Get Paddington Tickets

Paddington has been selling extremely well since opening, and performances are sold out months in advance. The best availability is currently from autumn 2026 onwards.

Check BritishTheatre.com for the latest availability, or book through tickadoo. If you have a specific date in mind, book as far ahead as possible. Midweek performances (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings and Thursday matinees) tend to have better availability than weekends.

Tips for Your Visit

Arrive with plenty of time. The Savoy Theatre does not offer pram storage, so make alternative arrangements before visiting. There is no cloakroom, though Charing Cross station has a left luggage facility about five minutes away. Small bags can be stored under your seat.

The Strand and surrounding Covent Garden area have plenty of dining options for pre-theatre meals or post-show treats. This is one of the most central locations in the West End, with easy access to Trafalgar Square, the South Bank and the rest of Theatreland.
