Emma Dennis-Edwards in Funeral Flowers The Archive of Educated Hearts, an intimate and innovative storytelling installation, and Power Play: Funeral Flowers, a site-specific witty portrayal of adolescence, have been awarded coveted Fringe Firsts by The Scotsman. Since 1973, the world-famous Fringe First awards have been recognising outstanding new writing premiered at the festival.
Director of Pleasance, Anthony Alderson comments, We’re thrilled to have two shows on the Pleasance programme recognised with highly prestigious Fringe First Awards. Funeral Flowers is part of the Power Plays, a site-specific showcase of works written by women. This visually stunning show, full of colourful blooms, uniquely combines spoken word with a floristry demonstration, as we follow a young woman’s terrible experiences and unwavering resilience. This shows Pleasance pushing the boundaries of what’s possible at the Fringe and working outside our traditional venues. Another show striving to do something different is The Archive of Educated Hearts,an intimate storytelling installation that has captured the hearts of all who have seen it. This highly profound and moving piece of theatre blends personal story telling with widely universal and resonant themes. Congratulations to both highly deserving winners.
