David Byrne brings his Sleeping Beauties solo talk to Theatre Royal Brighton, exploring ideas that shaped history. Read the event and ticket guide.
David Byrne brings a brand-new solo talk to Theatre Royal Brighton as part of a strictly limited UK run of five events. Titled An Evening with David Byrne: Sleeping Beauties, the evening centres on his forthcoming book of the same name and explores why some ideas are immediately celebrated while others wait decades for recognition.
This is a live talk, not a concert. Byrne takes to the stage alone to examine a recurring puzzle in the history of human thought: why do certain discoveries, artworks and inventions gain instant recognition while others of equal or greater significance lie dormant for years, sometimes centuries, before their importance is understood?
The talk draws on examples ranging from the scientific, continental drift, dark matter, to the artistic, including the long-delayed appreciation of Bach, Vermeer and Melville. Byrne frames these cases as a meditation on creativity, timing and the way societies decide what counts as important.
The listing offers a hardback copy of Sleeping Beauties as an optional addition to a ticket booking, with collection at the event. Check the current price and whether the option is still available at checkout.
Byrne is donating his fees from these events to the Rocksteady Foundation.
