BMOS Musical Theatre Company presents Shrek The Musical at The Alexandra, Birmingham, in an amateur production licensed through Music Theatre International. Book and lyrics are by David Lindsay-Abaire, music by Jeanine Tesori, and the show is based on the DreamWorks Animation film and the book by William Steig.
Shrek, a solitary ogre, is pushed into a quest alongside his garrulous sidekick Donkey to rescue the gutsy Princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. A short-tempered villain drives much of the conflict, and the broader cast draws on fairy-tale outcasts including a cookie with a considerable grievance.
The score includes numbers such as 'Big Bright Beautiful World', 'Freak Flag' and 'I'm A Believer'. The musical was originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions, where it won Tony Awards.
BMOS Musical Theatre Company has arranged this amateur production through Music Theatre International, which also supplies all performance materials.
