Scottish Opera - Fidelio - Touch Tour tickets in Glasgow

Scottish Opera's Touch Tour for Fidelio is a free pre-show access session at Theatre Royal Glasgow for audience members living with sight loss. Lasting around thirty minutes, it offers hands-on exploration of the set, scenery, props and costumes, with audio describers, stage management and wardrobe staff present throughout.

What the Touch Tour involves

Participants can handle and examine the physical elements of the production before the performance begins. Audio describers, stage management and wardrobe staff are on hand to share descriptions and interpretations of the space and to answer questions. Availability is limited.

The production being explored

Fidelio is Beethoven's only opera. This new staging forms part of a 2027 commemoration marking the 200th anniversary of the composer's death, bringing together Scotland's orchestras and national opera company around his music. The story follows Leonore, who disguises herself as a man named Fidelio to take a job with a prison gaoler in an effort to rescue her husband Florestan, who has been secretly imprisoned by a corrupt nobleman.

Ruth Knight directs, with designers Yannis Thavoris and Alisa Kalyanova creating a period-inspired visual world. Julia Sporsén is advertised in the role of Leonore / Fidelio and Thorbjørn Gulbrandsøy as Florestan. The score includes the Prisoners' Chorus.
