Theatre Skills for Presenting Yourself at Edinburgh Playhouse: a 4-hour ATG Inspire workshop using acting techniques to build workplace confidence. Book.
Theatre Skills for Presenting Yourself is a four-hour professional development workshop held on the Edinburgh Playhouse stage under the ATG Inspire programme. It draws on acting techniques and theatre scripts to help participants present themselves with confidence across workplace scenarios such as meetings, pitches, networking events and interviews.
Katie Mitchell leads the workshop as Edinburgh Playhouse’s ATG Inspire producer. Her work as a producer, director and drama artist includes Scottish organisations such as Strange Town Theatre and the Royal Lyceum Theatre, with more than a decade of industry experience.
Participants explore acting techniques associated with Sir Laurence Olivier and Dame Judi Dench, applying them to workplace contexts. The curriculum addresses presenting with confidence and clarity, engaging an audience, refining body language and physical presence, developing the voice, and building analysis and feedback skills. Take-home resources are included.
The day begins with networking in the Little Picardy bar over tea, coffee and pastries from 9:30 to 10:00. The first taught session runs to 11:45, covering presentation styles and techniques, followed by a short break. The afternoon block from 12:00 to 13:30 focuses on putting those techniques into practice, with peer analysis and feedback.
The workshop is aimed at people who feel nervous presenting themselves professionally, and at businesses seeking a theatre-based approach to team development. It is designed so that skills can be transferred directly back into a working environment.
The stage is reached by two steps and there is no lift access, so this session is not wheelchair accessible. Anyone with additional access or support needs is encouraged to contact Jenny Allan, Sales and Development Manager (Scotland), at jennyallan@atgentertainment.com before booking.
Tickets for ATG Inspire events are non-refundable. Revenue from ticket sales feeds back into the ATG Inspire programme, supporting initiatives such as free bursaries on the Work in Theatre course for teenagers, a creative writing collaboration with Waverley Care for adults living with HIV, the Young Ambassador programme, and first-visit theatre trips for schoolchildren.
