Dnipro Opera performs Puccini's Madama Butterfly in Italian with English surtitles at Grand Opera House York. Book tickets.
Ukrainian National Opera® presents Puccini's Madama Butterfly, performed by the Dnipro Opera, Ukraine, at Grand Opera House York. The production is sung in Italian with English surtitles and accompanied by a live orchestra.
Set in Japan at the turn of the twentieth century, the opera follows Cio-Cio San, a young geisha who marries American naval officer Pinkerton and turns away from her family and traditions, placing her faith entirely in the life he has promised her. As time passes, that faith becomes a test of loyalty, courage and sacrifice. Puccini's score carries the story through music that includes the aria Un bel dì vedremo, the Love Duet and the Humming Chorus.
The Dnipro Opera performs with international soloists and its own live orchestra. English surtitles are projected to help audiences follow the Italian libretto. Theatregoers seated in the upper levels or in restricted-view positions should note that surtitle visibility may be limited from some of those seats.
