Women in Tech Course at Theatre Royal Brighton: a 3-day taster in lighting, sound, staging and flying for women and non-binary people aged 18+. Book a place.
Women in Tech Course is a three-day practical taster at Theatre Royal Brighton, open to cis and trans women and non-binary individuals aged 18 and over. It offers hands-on Back of House training across staging, hemp flying, knots, lighting and sound, with time spent exploring pathways into entry-level and apprenticeship roles in technical theatre.
The source lists each day at eight hours, covering stage work, hemp flying, knot techniques, and the set-up and operation of lighting and sound equipment. The course also explores how participants might move into the industry, whether through apprenticeships or casual technician work. The programme is described as a taster, and some prior amateur or professional experience is noted as relevant for those interested in pursuing a technical theatre career.
The course is framed as part of an ongoing effort to challenge inequality and widen access within the industry. A limited number of subsidised places are available at a subsidised rate for those who are eligible or who face financial barriers to attending. Enquiries about subsidised places or financial restrictions can be directed to jackiealexander@atgentertainment.com.
