The Tiger Who Came to Tea is David Wood's Olivier Award nominated musical of Judith Kerr's classic picture book, back at Theatre Royal Haymarket for summer 2026.
One of children's literature's most famous teatime visitors is back in the West End. The Tiger Who Came to Tea returns to Theatre Royal Haymarket for summer 2026, a musical play adapted and directed by David Wood OBE and based on Judith Kerr's best-loved picture book. This Olivier Award nominated production is a warm, funny introduction to live theatre for the youngest audiences, running around 55 minutes with no interval.
The doorbell rings just as Sophie and her mummy are sitting down to tea. Who could it possibly be? The very last thing they expect to find on the doorstep is a big, stripy tiger, hungry enough to gobble up every sandwich, every bun and even all the water in the tap. Kerr's gentle, surprising story comes to the stage with sing-along songs, magical moments, clumsy chaos and plenty of interactive fun, an ideal first show for children aged three and above and a nostalgic treat for the grown-ups who grew up with the book.
The production is adapted and directed by David Wood OBE, widely regarded as the UK's leading writer and director of plays and musicals for children, with songs and lyrics also by Wood. The creative team brings the story to life with magical illusions, lively choreography and live music. Casting is confirmed by the production ahead of each season and can change, so do check the latest details when you book.
This is the show's sixth consecutive summer at the historic Theatre Royal Haymarket, in the heart of London's West End. Use the calendar on this page to see live availability and book your seats for a perfect family-friendly outing.
