The programme mixes large-scale musicals, drama, ballet and opera on tour, comedy, family shows and a Christmas pantomime. The theatre opened in June 1992 as the New Victoria Theatre, the name by which many local audiences still know it, and today operates as Woking Theatre. It was conceived as a large receiving house able to take full-scale touring productions, and with around 1,300 seats it remains one of the biggest theatres of its kind outside London.
Rather than standing alone, the theatre was built as part of a wider arts and leisure complex in the town centre. The same building contains the smaller Rhoda McGaw Theatre and a six-screen cinema, which means Woking can offer studio-scale work, film and big touring shows on one site.
From the start the programme reached well beyond the usual touring circuit. The Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and the Peter Hall Company have all brought drama here, while Glyndebourne on Tour, Scottish Ballet and Northern Ballet Theatre became regular visitors. Award-winning musicals staged at the theatre have included Carmen Jones, Chicago, Cats and Miss Saigon.
The theatre is owned and run by ATG Entertainment, which continues to programme it as one of the South East's leading venues for live performance, with dance from companies such as Matthew Bourne's New Adventures sitting alongside comedy, family shows and the annual pantomime.
Train
Woking station is about five minutes' walk from the theatre. Regular services run from London Waterloo, taking roughly 25 to 30 minutes, and there are direct trains from Portsmouth, Basingstoke and Southampton.
Bus
There is limited space for coach drop-off directly outside the theatre, reserved for groups with mobility issues. Contact the Groups Hotline on 0333 009 5386 for a permit or for alternative coach parking information.
Parking
There is no on-site parking. The closest options are the Victoria Place Red, Green, Blue and Yellow Car Parks (GU21 6GQ), nearest the Peacocks Centre entrance, and Brewery Road Car Park (GU21 4ND), nearest the Gloucester Square entrance. The theatre has no designated parking bays of its own, but these nearby car parks have Blue Badge spaces. EV charging points are available in the Victoria Place Red Car Park, and bike racks are in Gloucester Square directly outside the theatre entrance.
The auditorium is arranged over three levels, Stalls, Royal Circle and Upper Circle, with a small number of boxes. Sightlines are clear throughout, so the main decision is how close to the stage you want to be and whether you need lift access.
For signed performances, the theatre recommends Stalls rows H to N (seats 10 to 30) or Royal Circle rows A to C (seats 10 to 30). Book through the venue's official box office and check the seat view tool on the operator's seating page if you want to see the sightline before you commit.
Woking Theatre has two entrances: one from Level 1 of the Peacocks Centre and one on Gloucester Square, opposite the Woking Borough Council offices and next to Woking Library.
Audio described, captioned, BSL interpreted and relaxed performances are scheduled through the year, along with touch tours. For signed performances the theatre suggests seats in Stalls rows H to N (seats 10 to 30) or Royal Circle rows A to C (seats 10 to 30) for a clear view of the interpreter. A free Access Membership Scheme allows accessible seats and eligible companion tickets to be booked online.

Yes. Lifts serve the Stalls and Royal Circle, there are nine wheelchair spaces in the back row of the Royal Circle and one in the Stalls, and accessible toilets are on all three levels. The Upper Circle is reached by stairs only, and the accessibility assistance line is 0333 009 5399.
It opened in June 1992, originally as the New Victoria Theatre, as part of a complex that also contains the Rhoda McGaw Theatre and a six-screen cinema.
The Stalls put you closest to the stage, the Royal Circle gives a raised overview that suits musicals and dance, and the Upper Circle offers the widest view but is reached by stairs. Note that Stalls rows AA, BB and CC are removed when a show needs an orchestra pit.
Woking Theatre has a capacity of 1,300 — small enough to feel intimate but large enough to host major productions.
