Hairspray The Musical launches a brand-new UK & Ireland tour from July 2027, opening at the Palace Theatre Manchester. Neil Hurst, known for playing this role previously and for his work in The Full Monty, returns as Edna Turnblad, with further casting still to be announced.

The story and its characters

The musical centres on Tracy Turnblad alongside characters including the spirited Seaweed, his sister Little Inez, heartthrob Link Larkin, and the resolute Motormouth Maybelle, all engaging with themes of tolerance and racial integration. The score features songs such as Good Morning Baltimore, Welcome to the 60s, and You Can't Stop the Beat.

The show won eight Tony Awards on Broadway and four Olivier Awards during its West End run, with further awards internationally.
