Dickens Theatre Company's six-actor GCSE adaptation of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde tours UK theatres with optional post-show Q&A. Check tickets.
Dickens Theatre Company brings Robert Louis Stevenson's Gothic novella to the stage in this touring play designed for GCSE English students, though the sources describe it as entertaining for all audiences. Six actors share the full cast of characters across a brisk 1 hour 45 minutes, using multi-rolling to conjure fog-bound Victorian London and the duality at the story's heart.
The adaptation sets the action in London, 1888, where a menacing figure haunts Fitzrovia's streets and a violent attack on a child drives the central mystery. Six actors between them populate Stevenson's full cast through swift character shifts, relying on inventive storytelling rather than large-scale spectacle.
Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde sits within Dickens Theatre Company's Revision on Tour programme, which also includes adaptations of Macbeth and A Christmas Carol. The series is built around curriculum support, with the staging and text shaped to illuminate themes and techniques relevant to GCSE English.
All matinee performances include the option to remain after the show for a free 20-minute Q&A with the cast and director. The session is particularly aimed at school groups, giving students a direct opportunity to question the creative team about their interpretation of the novella. Attendance is optional and does not require a separate ticket.
