Rick Buckler brings live music, personal stories and a rare exhibition celebrating The Jam to Woking Theatre. Check booking details.
Rick Buckler: Music, Memories and The Jam is a concert and celebration at Woking Theatre honouring the life and legacy of Rick Buckler, drummer of The Jam. Hosted by radio DJ Mike Read, the evening brings together live music, personal recollections from people who worked with the band, and a foyer exhibition drawn from the About The Young Idea collection.
Live music comes from A Band Called Malice, The Highliners, Pretty Green and Steve Brookes, a founding member of The Jam. Instrumental contributions are made by Stuart Prosser on trumpet, whose credits include the Style Council; saxophonist Steve Grainger, who played on a Culture Club album; and keyboard player Jody Smith, who has worked alongside Van Morrison, Nigel Price and Bill Shanley.
Between performances, personal accounts are shared by Dennis Munday from Polydor Record Label, producer Peter Wilson, album and sleeve designer Bill Smith, Steve Brookes on the band's early days, and Luke Morgan of The Highliners on life after The Jam.
The foyer hosts a selection of pieces from the About The Young Idea Exhibition, available on arrival and during the interval. The organisers note that some items have not previously been shown in public.
