The Devil Wears Prada announces new West End cast for third year

The Runway office is fully staffed again. The Devil Wears Prada has confirmed the complete company for its third year at the Dominion Theatre, with two promotions from within the building, two familiar faces staying put, and a new booking period that now runs until 25 September 2027.

Jenna Bonner steps up to play Andy Sachs, the aspiring journalist at the centre of the story, having previously been first cover for the role. Dean Makowski-Clayton, who has been playing Irv Ravitz, moves across to play Nate, Andy's loyal boyfriend. Taila Halford continues as Emily, Miranda's first assistant, and Dominic Andersen stays on as Christian.

They join the previously announced Teri Hatcher, who takes over as Miranda Priestly from 20 October 2026, and Matt Henry MBE, who continues as Nigel, Miranda's right-hand man at the magazine.

Promotions from inside the Runway office

There is something fitting about a show built on ambition and career ladders rewarding its own company. Bonner, whose earlier credits include Tina: The Musical, has spent time learning Andy from the wings as first cover. Now the part is hers: the wide-eyed graduate who lands a job most people in fashion would give anything for, then finds out exactly what it costs.

Makowski-Clayton's move is a more literal change of wardrobe. Having played Irv Ravitz, the head of the publishing company behind Runway, he now plays Nate, the chef boyfriend who keeps asking Andy whether the job is worth it. His credits include Marie Curie, A New Musical. It is a sympathetic role that anchors the show's home life against the chaos of the office, and it asks for warmth rather than menace.

Continuity matters just as much. Halford, who came to the production with credits including Shucked, keeps her place as Emily, the fiercely protective first assistant whose rivalry with Andy supplies much of the comedy. Andersen, known to West End audiences from Heathers The Musical, continues as Christian, the charming writer who dangles a more glamorous future in front of Andy.

Who is playing Miranda, and when

Miranda Priestly is the role everyone asks about, so here is the timeline. Vanessa Williams, who originated the part in London, played her final performance on 19 September. Debbie Kurup, the production's first standby Miranda, has been playing the role full time since 21 September and continues as first standby once the new star arrives. Kurup's long list of West End credits includes The Bodyguard and The Cher Show.

Teri Hatcher takes over from 20 October 2026 and is currently scheduled to play Miranda until 6 February 2027. Best known to television audiences for Desperate Housewives and Lois & Clark, Hatcher also has stage form: she played Sally Bowles on tour in Cabaret and Morticia in The Addams Family. When her casting was confirmed, she described Miranda as "intelligent, commanding" and said the character "has a glorious way of putting you in your place while being funny at the same time."

Matt Henry, the Olivier Award winner best remembered for his Lola in Kinky Boots, remains as Nigel. He had originally been due to leave in the autumn but extended his stay into February 2027 when the run was extended.

The full company

The ensemble for the third year is Jak Allen-Anderson, Georgia Aspinall, Anta Bah, Evonnee Bentley-Holder, Teagan Denham, Russell Dickson, Eve Drysdale, Selina Hamilton, Helen Hill, Kimberley Hoyle, Emma Johnson, Justin-Lee Jones, Mark Lamb, Ethan Le Phong, Zixi Li, Shannon Molloy, Jacob Morrish, Nay-Nay, Eddylia Osborne, David Peter Brown, Theo UK Rose, João Silva, Ellie Stevens, Maisy Stones, Kayleigh Thadani, Hannah Victoria-Bennett and Alex Woodward.

It is a sizeable company, and it needs to be. The show moves at the pace of a fashion week, with quick changes and big group numbers that keep the whole company busy.

A record run at the Dominion

The musical opened in the West End in December 2024 and has since become the fastest-selling production in the Dominion Theatre's history, with more than 1.3 million tickets sold. It passed its 800th performance on 23 September. The latest extension, confirmed over the summer, pushed the booking period through to 25 September 2027, which means the new company has the best part of a year on Tottenham Court Road ahead of it.

The score is by Elton John, with lyrics by Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick and a book by Kate Wetherhead. Jerry Mitchell, the director and choreographer behind Kinky Boots and Legally Blonde, directs and choreographs. Sets are by Tim Hatley, lighting by Bruno Poet and sound by Gareth Owen.

The clothes, unsurprisingly, are a headline act of their own. Tony Award-winning costume designer Gregg Barnes has built the Runway world from hundreds of handmade pieces alongside garments from fashion houses including Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Balmain. If you saw the show in its first year, the wardrobe alone makes a return visit tempting.

What the show is about

Based on Lauren Weisberger's bestselling novel and the hit 2006 film, the musical follows Andy Sachs, fresh out of college and hoping to become a serious journalist, as she lands an assistant's job at Runway magazine under its formidable editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly. The more she succeeds, the more she is drawn into a world she once looked down on, and the more her friends, her relationship and her own sense of self begin to slip.

Fans of the film will recognise the characters and the set-up, but the stage version has its own songs and its own sense of humour. It is produced by Kevin McCollum, David Furnish and Jamie Wilson, in a co-production with Theatre Royal Plymouth, presented by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical.

Planning your visit

Performances run Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.30pm. The show runs for about two hours and 30 minutes, including one interval. It is recommended for ages 12 and over, and children under five are not admitted to the theatre.

The Dominion Theatre sits at the top of Tottenham Court Road, a couple of minutes' walk from Tottenham Court Road station on the Elizabeth, Central and Northern lines. It is one of the West End's largest auditoriums, which suits a show of this scale.
