Sir Van Morrison performs live at Swansea Arena and Princess Theatre Torquay, six decades of blues, jazz and soul. Book tickets.
Sir Van Morrison performs live at Swansea Building Society Arena and Princess Theatre, Torquay. A Belfast-born musician whose career spans more than six decades, Morrison brings a catalogue shaped by blues, jazz, gospel and Celtic influences. These are original-artist concerts, not tribute performances.
Morrison was born in 1945 and grew up absorbing his father's record collection, taking in blues, country and gospel from artists including Hank Williams, Muddy Waters and Mahalia Jackson. By the age of thirteen he was already working as a travelling musician, singing and playing guitar and saxophone across a succession of bands.
In 1964 he formed Them, whose recordings produced 'Gloria' and 'Here Comes The Night'. His solo path opened with 'Brown Eyed Girl' in 1967, a Top 40 pop hit produced by Bert Berns in New York. The following year, Astral Weeks drew together street poetry, jazz improvisation, Celtic invocation and what the sources describe as Afro Celtic Blues wailing. Albums including Moondance and Tupelo Honey followed in quick succession, each extending a catalogue that now runs to around 360 tracks.
Among Morrison's formal recognitions are a knighthood and a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He continues to record new material and remains an active live performer. His 2015 collaborative album Duets: Re-working the Catalogue featured Bobby Womack, Mavis Staples and Michael Bublé, revisiting songs drawn from across his back catalogue.
