The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time UK tour extends into summer 2027

The acclaimed stage version of Mark Haddon’s novel is staying on the road for longer. Melting Pot and Birmingham Rep, who produce the tour, have announced that Ned Bennett’s brand-new staging of Simon Stephens’ play will visit five more theatres in June and July 2027, taking the UK tour through to 10 July 2027. The new stops are Peterborough, Plymouth, Wolverhampton, Canterbury and Mold. Until now, the official schedule of 28 stops ran to Darlington Hippodrome, which plays from 25 to 29 May 2027.

The announcement comes with a new trailer and a fresh set of production photographs. This week the production is at Theatre Royal Brighton until Saturday 3 October, before moving on to Milton Keynes Theatre. See dates and tickets for selected stops on our Curious Incident UK tour tickets page.

The five new 2027 venues

Melting Pot and Birmingham Rep’s announcement adds these dates after Darlington, at the end of the tour:

• 8–12 June 2027: Peterborough New Theatre
• Theatre Royal Plymouth
• 22–26 June 2027: Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton
• 29 June to 3 July 2027: The Marlowe, Canterbury
• 6–10 July 2027: Theatr Clwyd, Mold

Although some reports describe a UK and Ireland tour, all of the dates announced so far are in the UK. The five new venues are not yet listed on our tour page. When we checked, the new dates had not yet been added to the official tour website either, so keep an eye on that site and on the venues themselves for booking details as they are confirmed.

A new staging with a new Christopher

This brand-new staging opened at Birmingham Rep earlier this month, and the biggest change is at its centre. In Theatre Weekly’s words: “Leading the cast are Alex Keenan and Imi Price, the first women to portray Christopher Boone in the play’s history.” WhatsOnStage adds that “the production marks the first time the central character has been portrayed by female performers”, and that the character’s pronouns have been switched for this run.

Alex Keenan leads the cast as Christopher, with Imi Price as the alternate. It is a professional debut for both. Keenan, who was born in London and grew up in Glasgow, recently graduated from LAMDA, while Price trained at Urdang Academy. In her official biography, Price says that as an autistic performer she is excited to bring authenticity to the role.

They are joined by Charlie Brooks and Joe McFadden as Christopher’s parents, Judy and Ed. Brooks is best known for playing Janine Butcher in EastEnders. McFadden is familiar to television viewers from Holby City and Heartbeat, and won Strictly Come Dancing in 2017. Both also have long stage careers, including national tours and West End runs.

The cast is completed by Bridgette Amofah, Alex Murdoch, Matthew Bulgo, Jerone Marsh Reid, Carla Garratt, Tom Clegg, Robert Penny and Sera Mustafa.

What is the story?

Adapted by Simon Stephens from Mark Haddon’s bestselling novel, the play follows Christopher Boone, a teenager with an extraordinary gift for mathematics who finds other people and everyday life hard to predict. When a neighbour’s dog is found dead, suspicion falls on Christopher, who sets out to find the real culprit and becomes both detective and suspect. The investigation soon uncovers family secrets much nearer to home, testing Christopher’s courage, trust and independence.

The play premiered at the National Theatre in 2012 before transferring to the West End and Broadway, and it went on to become an international success. Theatre Weekly reports that it has now been seen by more than five million people worldwide.

The creative team

Ned Bennett directs, with set and costume design by Eleanor Bull, composition and sound design by Giles Thomas and video design by Hayley Egan. Matt Hutchinson is puppetry designer and director, casting is by Abby Galvin and the associate director is Anastasia Osei-Kuffour.

The official tour website lists 28 stops, running from Theatre Royal Brighton this week to Darlington Hippodrome from 25 to 29 May 2027. Melting Pot and Birmingham Rep have now added five more venues in June and July 2027, shown at the end of the list.
