Tom Chambers has joined Giovanna Fletcher in Before I Go To Sleep, the world premiere stage adaptation of S J Watson's bestselling thriller, which tours the UK and Ireland in 2027. Chambers will play Ben, opposite Fletcher, who was already announced to lead the production.
The story will be familiar to many from the hit film starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. Now it comes to the stage, opening at Richmond Theatre from 15 to 23 January 2027 before visiting 20 more venues and closing at Leeds Grand Theatre on 26 June. Tickets for the tour are on sale now.
What is the story about?
Christine appears to live an idyllic life, except that every night when she falls asleep, she loses all memory of the last 20 years. Each morning she has to start again. As she attempts to piece her life back together, terrifying truths emerge, and she can no longer be sure who to trust.
It is a premise built for the theatre: a single mind trying to rebuild itself, and an audience left guessing alongside her about what is real.
Who does Tom Chambers play?
Chambers plays Ben, and he is scheduled to appear at every venue up to and including the Lyceum in Sheffield, which runs from 30 March to 3 April 2027. The production has not yet said who will play the role for the later dates.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining Giovanna in Before I Go To Sleep," he said. "It's such a brilliantly unsettling story, and what I love about it is that you're never quite sure who or what to believe."
He added: "Ben is a fascinating character to play, particularly in a story where memory and trust are so closely intertwined. I think Rachel has done a great job adapting the book into a stage play and I can't wait to get into rehearsals and bring this extraordinary thriller to audiences around the country."
Chambers is no stranger to touring thrillers. For more on his recent stage work, read our earlier story on Tom Chambers in Dial M for Murder.
Who is behind the stage adaptation?
The play is written by Rachel Wagstaff and directed by Loveday Ingram. The pair previously worked together on the stage version of The Girl on the Train, so psychological suspense is familiar territory for them.
Set, costume and video design are by Justin Nardella, with lighting design by Jason Taylor and sound design by Gareth Fry. The production is produced by Josh Andrews. Further casting and creative team announcements will follow.
Is there more to come from the novel?
Yes. A sequel to the novel will be released in 2027, the same year the stage version takes to the road, so fans of the book have two new chances to return to Christine's story.
