Howard Barker verweeft feminisme, seks en objectivering tot zijn eigen, eigenzinnige kijk op Shakespeares Hamlet. Zijn Gertrude is een complex, uitdagend en ronduit smerig stuk.

De titelrol van Gertrude wordt gespeeld door Izabella Urbanowicz (Truth and Reconciliation, Royal Court Theatre; The Session, Soho Theatre; Hamlet Peckham, The Bussey Building; What You Will: Pop Up Shakespeare, Shakespeare’s Globe; en The Crimson Petal and the White (BBC/Origin Pictures)). Ze is momenteel ook te zien in I’m Not Jesus Christ in Theatre N16.
