Amadeus in London

Michael Sheen and Callum Scott Howells lead Peter Shaffer's Amadeus at the Noël Coward Theatre from 17 April to 7 August 2027. Sheen plays the composer Antonio Salieri, with Howells as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in a new production directed by Jeremy Herrin.

What is Amadeus about?

Salieri has built a successful life around music, but Mozart's talent leaves him questioning everything he has achieved. Recognition gives way to jealousy as he tries to undermine the younger composer. Shaffer turns their rivalry into a drama about ambition, belief and the painful difference between understanding genius and possessing it.

Cast and production

The production brings together Welsh National Theatre and Second Half Productions. It opens at New Theatre Cardiff in March before its London season. Sheen previously played Mozart in Peter Hall's production and later took on Salieri in Sydney. Howells returns to the West End following Cabaret.
