About the show

Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap plays Woking Theatre on its 75th anniversary UK and Ireland tour, 25–30 January 2027, with Nicholas Bailey and Susan Penhaligon.

The Mousetrap Woking tickets cover a winter week at Woking Theatre, still known to many locals as the New Victoria Theatre, where Agatha Christie’s whodunnit plays from Monday 25 to Saturday 30 January 2027 on its 75th anniversary tour. Evenings begin at 7.30pm from Monday to Saturday, and matinees are at 2.30pm on Wednesday 27 and Saturday 30 January.

The Mousetrap Woking at the former New Victoria Theatre

The theatre opened in June 1992 as the New Victoria and now trades as Woking Theatre, but the building is unchanged: a large receiving house at the heart of the Peacocks Centre, sharing its home with the smaller Rhoda McGaw Theatre and a cinema. With around 1,300 seats it is one of the biggest touring theatres outside London, and over three decades it has welcomed the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and Glyndebourne on Tour. Christie’s thriller belongs in that tradition of serious touring drama, and the clean sightlines of a purpose built modern house help when you are trying to keep track of eight suspects in one room.

Late January is the bleakest stretch of the theatre year, which makes it the perfect moment for a story about strangers trapped by snow. Surrey may rarely see drifts like the ones outside Monkswell Manor, but a cold Woking evening, a warm auditorium and a murder to solve is a fine cure for the post Christmas lull.

The Mousetrap story in brief

The wireless announces that a woman has been strangled in London. Out in the countryside, Mollie and Giles Ralston are welcoming the very first guests to their new guesthouse while a blizzard rages. The visitors are an awkward collection of personalities, and none of them is quite who they seem. When a young detective arrives on skis and the telephone goes dead, the house becomes a trap. The solution has been kept secret by audiences since 1952, and the cast will ask you to do the same.

The Mousetrap tour cast in Woking

Susan Penhaligon, star of A Fine Romance and Bouquet of Barbed Wire, plays the fault finding Mrs Boyle, and Nicholas Bailey, known from EastEnders, plays Major Metcalf. Emily Laing and Jack Hardwick play the young hosts Mollie and Giles Ralston, Thomas Barrett plays Christopher Wren, Clare Duffy plays Miss Casewell, James Peake is Mr Paravicini and Alfie Richards completes the company as Detective Sergeant Trotter. Understudies are Ben Gresswell, Sophie Lagden, Judith Rae and Darren Ruston. Hannah Chissick directs, with casting by Denise Silvey.

Captioned performance of The Mousetrap Woking

ATG lists a captioned performance on Thursday 28 January 2027 at 7.30pm, which makes the play accessible to deaf and hard of hearing audiences. For a whodunnit where a single line of dialogue can hold the key clue, captions are a real bonus. Our Woking Theatre venue guide has more on access, seating and facilities.

Running time and age guidance in Woking

The play lasts about 2 hours 5 minutes, including a 20-minute interval, so the evening performances finish at around 9.35pm, comfortably in time for the last trains to Guildford, Basingstoke and London Waterloo. The producers recommend it for ages 7 and over. It is tense but never gory, and many Surrey families make it a first grown up theatre trip.

A town with a taste for mystery

Woking has its own place in literary history: H. G. Wells lived here while writing The War of the Worlds, and the giant Martian tripod sculpture in the town centre is a short walk from the theatre. Christie and Wells make an appealing double bill for a day out. To learn how her play became a phenomenon, read our guide to the world’s longest running play, or see the original nightly at The Mousetrap at St Martin’s Theatre, half an hour away by train.

Getting to Woking Theatre

The theatre is about five minutes on foot from Woking station, which has fast and frequent trains from London Waterloo. The Peacocks Centre and Victoria Place car parks are next door, and restaurants and bars surround the complex.
