Waiting for Waiting for Godot is a hilarious backstage comedy about two hapless understudies occupying their time while waiting to go on in a production of Samuel Beckett's famous play. As they try to make sense of the play they are supposed to be performing, they stumble through existential questions, misremember their lines, and discover that waiting in the wings can be just as absurd and meaningful as anything happening on stage.
This is a brilliantly conceived comedy that works whether or not you know the Beckett original. If you do, the show is packed with knowing references and affectionate parody. If you do not, it is simply a very funny play about two people trying to understand something incomprehensible, which is really what Beckett was writing about in the first place. The production at The Other Palace makes the most of the intimate venue for this two-hander.
Waiting for Waiting for Godot plays at The Other Palace near Victoria station. Check current listings for dates and availability. The show is suitable for teenagers and adults. The Other Palace is located on Palace Street, a short walk from Victoria station (Victoria, District, and Circle lines).
For more theatrical comedy, The Play That Goes Wrong offers a similar love letter to the chaos of live performance, while Austentatious delivers completely improvised comedy every night.
