Hadestown UK tour adds Southend, Northampton, Woking, Oxford and Wimbledon

Five more venues have joined the debut UK and Ireland tour of the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical, taking it to Southend, Northampton, Woking, Oxford and Wimbledon in 2027. The new weeks were announced on Monday 28 September 2026 and, according to the producing team, go on general sale on Friday 2 October 2026.

The additions stretch the route from February right through to late November 2027. Cliffs Pavilion in Southend slots in at the end of May, Royal & Derngate in Northampton, the New Victoria Theatre in Woking and the New Theatre in Oxford join the autumn leg, and New Wimbledon Theatre becomes the final stop on the itinerary as it currently stands, from 16 to 20 November.

The news was reported on 28 September by WhatsOnStage, Theatre Weekly and Best of Theatre, and the new weeks now appear on the official tour website. The five new venues and dates

All five new engagements are in 2027, and each is a single week running from a Tuesday to a Saturday:

Cliffs Pavilion, Southend: Tuesday 25 to Saturday 29 May 2027
Royal & Derngate, Northampton: Tuesday 28 September to Saturday 2 October 2027
New Victoria Theatre, Woking: Tuesday 12 to Saturday 16 October 2027
New Theatre, Oxford: Tuesday 19 to Saturday 23 October 2027
New Wimbledon Theatre: Tuesday 16 to Saturday 20 November 2027

For theatregoers in London and the South East, this is the headline. Wimbledon and Woking bring the tour within easy reach of south-west London and Surrey, Southend covers Essex and the Thames Estuary, and Oxford and Northampton link the Thames Valley with the Midlands. Until now, the nearest announced stops for many theatregoers in the region were Milton Keynes, Canterbury and Southampton.

The autumn run is now particularly busy. After Hull in late September, the tour goes straight into Northampton, then Plymouth, Woking, Oxford and Wolverhampton on consecutive weeks, before finishing with Chester, Sunderland and Wimbledon in November.

General sale opens Friday 2 October

According to the producing team, general sale for all five new venues opens on Friday 2 October 2026. Until then these weeks are not on sale, and the official tour website lists each of them as on sale soon. The announcement does not give an opening time, so it is worth checking with your chosen theatre on the day.

The official listing points ticket buyers to each venue's own box office or ticketing partner. The official website also offers a sign up for news and pre-sale access, although the announcement does not say whether a pre-sale will run for these five weeks.

Prices, performance times and access performances have not been included in the announcement for the new dates. Each venue will publish its own schedule, so check matinee times and any captioned, audio described or relaxed performances when the week goes on sale.

The full 2027 route so far

With the five additions, the itinerary now takes in 27 venues across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, plus a Dublin engagement whose details are yet to come. Here is the route in date order, as listed by the producing team, with the new venues marked:

Most engagements are one week long. The longer stays are Leicester, where the tour opens with a run of just over two weeks, Salford and Nottingham at two weeks each, Belfast at nearly two weeks and Sheffield, which runs from a Thursday to the following Saturday week.

Where to see dates and tickets now

British Theatre's tour page currently lists four stops as on sale: Milton Keynes Theatre (Tuesday 20 to Saturday 24 April 2027), King's Theatre, Glasgow (Tuesday 8 to Saturday 12 June 2027), Liverpool Empire (Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 July 2027) and Sunderland Empire (Tuesday 9 to Saturday 13 November 2027). The five new venues are not listed on that page. For Southend, Northampton, Woking, Oxford and Wimbledon, follow the official tour website and the venues themselves ahead of general sale on 2 October.

About the show, if you are new to it

Anaïs Mitchell wrote the music, lyrics and book, and developed the piece with director Rachel Chavkin. It began as an indie theatre project and a concept album before growing into a full stage musical. The story weaves together two Greek myths: the young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone, whose long relationship plays out in a hard, industrial underworld.

Mitchell's music draws on American songwriting traditions, from indie folk and pop to blues and New Orleans-inspired jazz, and the musicians are part of the stage picture throughout. On Broadway the show won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the original Broadway cast recording won the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album. The producing team says that recording has been streamed nearly one billion times and has been certified Gold in the United States.

London originally saw it in a sold-out engagement at the National Theatre in 2018, and it is now in its third year in the West End. Among the reviews quoted on the official tour website, The Times called it ‘The best show in town. Glorious’. The tour is described as the musical's debut journey around the UK and Ireland.

One practical point for anyone planning a visit: British Theatre's tour page notes that the show contains strobe-like effects throughout, which is worth knowing if you are sensitive to them.

Casting and what comes next

Casting and the full creative team for the tour have not been announced yet, and neither have the Dublin dates. The tour is produced by Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold and Tom Kirdahy.

For now, the key dates are simple. The tour opens at Curve in Leicester on Friday 19 February 2027, the five new weeks go on general sale on Friday 2 October 2026, and the final announced stop is New Wimbledon Theatre from Tuesday 16 to Saturday 20 November 2027.
