History

The Charing Cross Theatre is a 'hidden gem' venue that has everything you will need for an unforgettable experience under one roof. The theatre, a former victorian music hall formerly known as the Players Theatre, offers an eclectic mix of drama, musicals, comedy, cabaret and even some late night shows.

The Players Bar and Kitchen has developed an award winning pre-theatre menu. So whether you are intending to slip down to our own auditorium or travel to another theatre. The menu has been carefully crafted by their head chef and offers delicious, modern, British Cuisine. It's regularly updated to make the most of seasonal produce so there's always something new to try.

The venue is comprised of a 265 seater theatre, a restaurant and bar which has a late licence to 2.30am.

Watched the panto “Beauty & the Beast - A Horny Love Story” and absolutely loved it! It was incredibly funny, and I had such a great time. Great view and comfortable seats - we were in the 3rd row on the left. It’s a small, intimate theatre under the arches at Embankment (you can hear the trains from time to time), with a small bar and friendly staff.

My first visit to this theatre was a positive experience. It may be small, but it has a special charm that creates just the right atmosphere. The service was good and made everything run smoothly. It was a little cold inside, but that didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment. Thank you for making our world a bit better 🙏

Naughty Christmas Pantomime performed by a fabulous cast. Excellent range of shows and theatre year round. Reasonable ticket prices and small enough to get everyone closer to the action. Convenient location near Embankment and Charing Cross stations.

🎭✨ Charing Cross Theatre & “Get Down Tonight” — A Disco Dream in an Intimate Setting ✨🎭 Well, wow wow wow — what a revelation this little gem of a theatre is! My first visit to the Charing Cross Theatre, tucked beneath the arches near Embankment, and it completely stole the show before the show even began. Cosy, atmospheric, and with that rare feeling of being part of the performance rather than just watching it. Every seat feels close, every note hits you right in the rhythm bone. 🪩 And what a performance — “Get Down Tonight – The KC & The Sunshine Band Musical” absolutely shines in this setting. Hit after hit rolled out like a disco dream — Boogie Shoes, That’s the Way (I Like It), Keep It Comin’ Love — all threaded through the KC story. The all-English cast channelled pure 1970s Miami heat, sounding every bit the real deal. The sound, lights, and staging worked perfectly with the theatre’s intimacy — it’s like being in the front row of Studio 54, only better air-conditioning and fewer hangovers. What a way to spend a Wednesday afternoon: a matinee full of funk, sparkle, and soul in one of London’s most characterful little venues. 💃🎶 #CharingCrossTheatre #GetDownTonight #DiscoMagic #MatineeVibes
