Dan Buckley, Dougie Carter, Anna-Jane Casey and Kelly Hampson are among the newly announced names joining Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose in One Day the Musical, as the full West End cast is confirmed for the Garrick Theatre. The new musical, based on David Nicholls’ bestselling novel, begins performances on Tuesday 17 November 2026 and is booking until 14 March 2027. Book One Day tickets at the Garrick Theatre on British Theatre, with seats from £36.

Alongside the casting, the show has shared a teaser film of Muscato as Dexter singing ‘You’, a song from the show, on its official YouTube channel.

Who is in the cast?

Muscato plays Dexter Mayhew and Rose plays Emma Morley, as we reported in June when the two leads were confirmed for the Garrick. Around them, the full line-up is:

  • Dan Buckley as Ian
  • Dougie Carter as Callum
  • Anna-Jane Casey as Alison Mayhew
  • Ross Dawes as Mr Godalming
  • Christopher Dickins as Stephen Mayhew
  • Kelly Hampson as Sylvie
  • Jennifer Louise Jones as Miffy
  • Romona Lewis-Malley as Tilly
  • Vanessa Fisher and Ewan Murphy in the ensemble
  • Rosalía Morales and Tom Mussell as understudies

The official cast list notes that Muscato is not scheduled to perform on Wednesday 16 December 2026 or from Tuesday 23 to Sunday 28 February 2027, so fans keen to see him as Dexter should pick another date.

Creative team and musicians

The musical has a book by David Greig, with music and lyrics by Abner and Amanda Ramirez, who perform together as Johnnyswim, and additional material by Jeremy Sams. Max Webster directs, with choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille.

Nigel Lilley is musical supervisor, musical director and co-arranger, and Rae Smith designs the set and costumes. Lighting is by Bruno Poet, sound by Simon Baker and video by Lewis den Hertog, with wigs, hair and make-up by Carole Hancock. Simon Hale is orchestrator and co-arranger, Stuart Burt CDG is casting director, Ingrid Mackinnon is intimacy director and Barbara Houseman is voice coach. Casting for the younger roles is by Keston and Keston.

Lilley also plays keys, joined by Luke Baxter on drums, Shelley Britton on violin and synth, Gemma Connor on cello, Matt Isaac on guitar and Marcus Pritchard on bass guitar and double bass.

What is One Day about?

Emma and Dexter meet at the end of their university days, on 15 July 1988, St Swithin’s Day. The story then returns to them on that same date every year for two decades, as their lives move through friendship, romance, ambition and missed chances. The musical had its world premiere at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh earlier this year, where Muscato and Rose created the roles.

Know before you go

The show runs for around 2 hours 40 minutes, including one interval. It is recommended for ages 12 and over and contains drug and alcohol misuse, very strong language and strobe lighting.

The Garrick Theatre is at 2 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0HH, about a minute’s walk from Leicester Square Underground station. A signed performance is scheduled for Friday 22 January 2027 at 7.30pm, and a captioned performance for Saturday 6 February 2027 at 7.30pm.

With a run of just under four months, Christmas and winter weekends are likely to be popular. See One Day dates and tickets at the Garrick Theatre, booking until 14 March 2027.
